Our Story – Performance Basketball Institute (PBI)

LJ grew up in Compton, California, with both of his parents Lewis J. Lowe III and Carolyn Lowe where his love for the game and his commitment to excellence were forged under the influence of his father. From the inner-city neighborhood courts of Los Angeles, his journey led him to earn a Division I basketball scholarship at Jacksonville University.
After briefly competing at the collegiate level, L.J. went on to play professionally for a short period of time, gaining invaluable insight into what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of the sport. That experience now fuels his work at Performance Basketball Institute (PBI), where he has built a unique developmental program grounded in elite training, mentorship, and exposure opportunities.
In August 2025, PBI officially transitioned to a nonprofit organization in honor of the late Lewis J. Lowe III—a U.S. Army veteran and three-time Purple Heart recipient—whose values of discipline, hard work, commitment, and service to others continue to guide the institute’s mission.
As co-founders, Carolyn Lowe and her son L.J., blend deep basketball knowledge with a passion for youth development. Their goal is simple yet powerful: to prepare kids not just to play, but to thrive—on and off the court.
